Each year on June 20-21, the Sun enters Cancer, event that coincides with the Solstice of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This occurs when the Earth’s axis, either in one or other hemisphere is more inclined towards the Sun, (in the case of the Summer Solstice, which in the South occurs around the 21 to 23 of December… )
Throughout history, many rituals and festivals have been organized to celebrate this cosmic event.
If we look at the birth chart of this winter-summer solstice for North and South hemispheres respectively, we see the Sun (0º Cáncer)right next Jupiter which is about to enter Cancer, at 28° Gemini and Lilith a 6º of Cancer. All forming an extraordinary Grand Trine to Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in PISCES, but of course, on the way to the opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. Everyone can feel this opposition when we connect with the feeling that things need to change much more than they already have, especially when we think about the institutions that govern us and manage our finances and our education. This transit of Pluto through Capricorn, has confronted all of us with these issues eloquently and continues to do so. But this grand Trine as well as offering us the opportunity to see the different ways by which, with clarity and patience, we can all help with these changes. It brings airs of optimism, many of us need. When you enter in the negative view of each tribal group, as I like to call it, it is possible to fall into a negative attitude in a long complaint, about unresolved issues that only victimizes those who see the world that way.
The Grand Trine
reminds us that there are many things we can do from our tiny space, like simply making the decision to change ourselves. If we think of the waves as they expand in the water, we can relate to the effect that will have within the tribe (community) we belong to, the small changes each one of us can make, as if we threw a little stone in the waters of a lake.
Mercury-Venus and Vesta are in square to Eris, this will affect the way that we relate to others, reminding us that we must make sure not to say things that may hurt the feelings of others, especially those who love us, simply because we are frustrated about something and be aware that our partners’ freedom, is as important as ours. There are moments in personal relationships that life takes us through different experiences and situations and much love, patience and dedication is necessary to survive these times and grow spiritually with them.
The Moon in the last degrees of Scorpio also forms a trine to Vesta and Ceres, therefore the relationships between mothers and daughters can go through moments of healing and growth, where respect for the space and the needs of the other is vital. This is a great opportunity for some mothers, especially those with adolescents children, to begin the return to the individual and/or professional tasks so that the role of mother does
not overwhelm them, learning to keep a time to celebrate Vesta with her sense of independence and individuality, and still keeping the fire of the “home” burning. The fact that Vesta is a Virgin goddess and celibate and still keeps the “home”, is a wonderful allegory of the multiplicity of the feminine.
On the 23rd, we have the full moon in Capricornio. This lunation highlights the duality between Cancer (the Sun in Cancer next to Jupiter in Gemini) and Capricorn (the Moon next to Pluto) seems to reinforce the idea expressed in the Solstice and the need to further balance between the masculine and patriarchal, with feminine and matriarchal. With Saturn in Scorpio, many cases of rape that occurred in the last 40 or 50 years have been finally brought to justice, in many cases in different courts around the world. Many men have found the force of law, for their rapes and murders of women, which occurred many years ago. Stuart Hall, 85-year-old, a personality of the English television in the 60-70 and 80, just in time for his Uranus return, goes to jail as of today. Adrian Bailey was jailed for life in Australia, for the rape and murder of an English tourist last years. This is just but a few.
Abuse of power is an issue with this full moon, at all levels. With Pluto in Capricorn next to the Moon, this full moon speaks of physical and emotional abuse of power and the reaction it provokes. The Sun with Jupiter evokes the need to apply the law in cases of abuse. But the question here is, how it is possible that these things continue happening, in these times? Why are our relationships so invaded with this need to dominate the other? It is possible that instead of learning the lesson of Libra, of collaboration, sharing and harmony within our relationship, always fall into this pitched war that destroys our feelings and our best intentions? No matter how hard we tray, we don’t seem to be far from the jungle, emotionally. And until we do not ask ourselves “what for?”, at least, and find some kind of response, we will continue to do so. If we are still inhabiting the emotional jungle, then everything is about survival, at the expense of learning to share, and what an evocation of Pluto, that is! It is here when we have the evolutionary need for humans to survive. This need is not simply loaded with evil, or bad intentions, it is merely the struggle for survival. If we could learn that surviving does not only mean to dominate the other, perhaps… But is it possible to survive without controlling the other? We should ask that to the salmons that die every day in the grip of bears, or gazelles in the hands of lions. Or all those women whose lives are threaten by sexual predators, who exist everywhere.
Let’s use the power of this Moon to think and discuss these issues. Of course , i don’t mean to say that women don’t have means of defending themselves, we also have our weapons to dominate the male. But before the physical power of man, women are quite powerless.
Would it be possible to surrender to love, with no fenders or tricks, without fear of abandonment, that sometimes comes from our ancestral memories and that often we relate to death? Is it possible to love without conditions, need for dominance over the other? This full moon activates the cardinal cross, Aries-Libra, Cancer-capricornio. The Moon in conjunction Pluto puts these issues on the table and the Sun in conjunction to Jupiter suggests to us, letting go of outdated and harmful ideas in the way we relate to one another, opening doors to the possibility of incorporating new archetypes in our families and relationships. Jupiter enters Cancer a few hours after that the Moon reaches its peak, outlining a new path in our approach to the way in which we deal with our families and our relationships. Our concept of home, could benefit from a thorough spring and autumn cleaning, whichever hemisphere you are in and leave space for new ideas and concepts that can help us find a way to emotional survival, which does not mean the destruction of the other.
A look into our family and ancestral background is inevitable.
